Wash and Rinse the Natural and, oh yeah, the CHEAP way!

Is this a picture of shampoo and conditioner? It is now! My girls and I have been experimenting w/this.
We use 2 cups water and 2 Tbs. of baking soda to "wash" our hair.
Then 2 cups of water and 2 Tbs. of apple cider vinegar to "condition" our hair. We have all been loving it and our hair feels AmAzInG!!

How to do it: Mix 2 T. of baking soda w/2 c. of water (we all have long hair, so adjust accordingly). We put it in an old water bottle and poke a hole in the lid. Wet your hair down. Pour the entire mixture over wet hair and message in as you would shampoo. Let set for 1-2 minutes then rinse well. Pour entire mixture of apple cider vinegar(2 T. acv and 2 c. water)over your hair and let set 1-2 minutes. Rinse and style as usual. I even have my teenage girls doing this and they love the way their hair feels. . .so soft and clean!

  1. Hey Melissa! Just happened upon your blog...not sure how, but I'm so excited! You seem to be a few steps ahead of me in everything I want to start doing--de junking, using more natural products, and eating healthier. I tried the 'no poo' challenge but hated how my hair felt so now I've been using shampoo again but only washing twice a week (tops). I'd love to get this baking soda/vinegar thing figured out--SO much cheaper and better for you! Any tips on how to find the right mixture for specific hair (my hair is naturally quite greasy)? Certainly its different for most everyone, no? Excited to follow your blog!!!

  2. Hi Erika. The combo is different for each person. We noticed there was an adjustment period for some of us. My hair took to it right away. Sariah's hair took a few weeks to get used to it. How long did you try it? When I was first learning about it, I heard that it could take up to 4-6 weeks for the hair to adjust to the change. For greasy hair, I would suggest adding more baking soda to the mix and perhaps washing more often until the hair adjusts. My Sariah and Abigail have been doing it for 2 months now and they LOVE the way it makes their hair feel. I will be posting a picture today of Abigail's hair. Let me know if you need help de junking! =)

  4. Hi Melissa,
Do you have any knowledge of coloring hair with out chemicals too? I like the idea of your baking soda and cider conditioner and will give it a try. My hair is very long; passed my waist line. Hoping this will not dry it out.

  5. Audrey,
If your hair is just starting to turn grey or you have just a few strands here and there of grey you can use a sage tea rinse. The sage tea rinse will also work if you already have grey, but it will take a while. I know a 72 yo woman who has been using this since she was 35 and she still has a head full of dark hair w/out ever chemically dying it! I've been wanting to make a post on this so I'll do that today. =)
